We’d like to take a moment to thank our interns for helping us out around the office:
Kendra Fujioka is Eye Care Hawaii’s summer intern and is learning more about optometry, which she intends to pursue as a career. Kendra will be a senior at Hilo High School this fall and enjoys playing tennis, hanging with friends and family, and many school activities, such as Key Club, Student Association, Band, and National Honors Society.
Kimberly Visaya is a Keaau High School Senior working on her Senior Project, which includes a research paper and oral presentations based on a Community Internship (Eye Care Hawaii). Her project ran from May 2010 to March 2011. Kim is looking to become an Optometrist one day.
Saydie Kuwahara attends Waiakea High School and is also a Senior. This is her Senior Internship, which requires her to complete many hours in a Community Internship. She is considering Optometry as a profession.
Eye Care Hawaii interns have the privilege to learn basic office skills, get exposed to basics of Optometry and learn about glasses and contact lenses. Their duties include filing patient charts, sending patient letters to patients and doctors, cleaning optical glasses and sunwear, shadowing the Technicians during pre-screening tests with patients, and shadow Dr. Grant Miyashiro during routine eye exams, refractions, and removing foreign bodies.
That’s right! Our prices are comparable to 1800contacts.com. We already have your prescription on file, so you won’t have to enter any Rx or doctor information. And our supplier is on Oahu, so we can actually save you $ in shipping costs.
Your order of 1 year’s worth of contact lenses ships for FREE! And since it’s coming from Oahu, it will be here sooner than if you ordered online from another company. We also accept coupons and rebates! Call our office for details — or to place an order.
Eye Care Hawaii is pleased to announce the arrival of two new lines from Match: Float-Milan and Helium-Paris. Both of these high-quality products are made in Italy, and are classically influenced with a modern feel. Come in and take a look at these beautiful frames today!
We have a new staff member: the Octopus 300 Pro Perimeter, which measures field of vision for neurological eye and brain disorders (i.e., glaucoma, brain tumors, and other conditions). This will allow us to be 95% more accurate in determining your field of vision. It also reduces the time it takes for us to test your vision, by ten minutes in some cases. The Octopus is another way for us to stay at the leading edge of technology and fulfill our commitment to bring you the best eye care possible.
Eye Care Hawaii is a proud participant in AOA’s Infant SEE Program, “a public health program… designed to ensure that eye and vision care becomes an integral part of infant wellness care to improve a child’s quality of life. Under this program, (Eye Care Hawaii) provides comprehensive eye and vision assessments for infants within the first year of life regardless of a family’s income or access to insurance coverage.”
Construction of the new office is finished and we have moved into our permanent location at 34 W. Kawailani! The optical boutique is still being assembled, but Dr. Miyashiro is now seeing patients six days a week, Monday through Saturday. See our Contact Us page of this website for our new office hours. (These may be changing slightly, but we will try to keep you posted on any changes.)
We need to say a big THANK YOU to everyone who we had to reschedule during the last days when we weren’t sure exactly what office we were going to be in the next day. It was a difficult process and we appreciate your understanding as we made our transition. It is a relief to all of us to finally be “home”!
When our optical boutique is completed, we will be sure to let you know. You can look at its construction on the About Us page of our website — we have a link to our Flickr account and some awesome photos of the installation of our display units. (They are ohia posts!) We are going to be offering many exciting brands of frames like Coach, Guess?, Sean John, and Ed Hardy.
