Dr. Grant T. Miyashiro was raised in Pearl City, Oahu. He attended Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, receiving his Bachelors of Science degree in 1991. He earned his O.D. degree (with distinction) from the Pacific University College of Optometry four years later, and went on to complete externships at Tripler Army Medical Center, Hickam Air Force Base 15th Medical Group, and the Pacific University Family Vision Centers (Downtown Portland, South East Portland). During this time, he was the recipient of the United States Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship and upon graduation in 1995, he served as an Optometrist at the United States Naval Hospital in Yokosuka Japan, and as adjunct faculty for the Kikuchi College of Optometry. Dr. Miyashiro also mentored Japanese medical students rotating through the eye clinic.Dr. Miyashiro returned to Hawai’i in 1998 to join the Kauai Medical Clinic. In June of 2000 he moved to Hilo to establish his independent office, and has been here ever since. Dr. Miyashiro is certified by the National and State Boards in Optometry and is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Hawaii Optometric Association. In addition, he serves as a vision screening consultant for the Rotary Club of South Hilo and is a regular speaker for Ke Anuenue, a local organization promoting community and public health. In his free time, Dr. Miyashiro enjoys cultivating a native Hawaiian forest at his Waiakea Uka home. Other interests include Brazilian jiujitsu, yoga, and subsistence farming.
Brandy Miyose, born and raised in Hilo, enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends. Especially with her two daughters, 11-year-old Kylee and 3-year-old Aubrey! Brandy loves to take them outdoors, whether it be camping, fishing, or just a walk in the park. Brandy brings over twelve years of customer service experience to the Eye Care Hawaii team, helping us to ensure the best service possible.
Yvonne Agan Ferreira was previously employed for 25 years with another Optometrist here in Hilo as the Office Manager and Head Dispenser. She later pursued her career as an Administrative Secretary for an electrical contractor for 5 years. Due to economic changes, Yvonne now finds herself back in to the optical business. One of her ultimate goals in this busy practice is to assure ECH patients of exquisite service, and she eagerly awaits their return. She genuinely provides all our patients with the utmost care and compassion. If asked what her favorite hobbies are, she’ll happily reply: “Spending time with my 3 grandchildren here and in Oahu — or taking a weekend cruise with Kenneth in our classic 1941 Willys coupe!”
Jade Iokepa is our Office Manager. She was born and raised right here in Hilo… and slowly worked her way back! Jade attended Hilo High School, then moved to California to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Professional Accounting. After earning her BS in 2003 from California State University at Chico, she worked for Intuit TurboTax in software testing and customer service. Later, she became office and sales manager for a vacation rental company, and eventually co-managed a small high-end spa here in Hilo before joining the Eye Care Hawaii team.
Jade loves spending time with her family and friends, as well as going to the beach, and traveling to the mainland, Oahu, Kona and Waikoloa. (Especially since her almost-3 year-old keeps things very busy at home!) She also loves pilates, yoga, and running in 5Ks. Jade is active in the community with church events and organized walks and runs.
Rachel Dove Harline brings 4 years of administration knowledge to Eye Care Hawaii. With her smile and warm personality, she ensures each patient leaves happy with their experience. Rachel graduated from the University of Hawai’i at Hilo in Marine Biology and loves to dive and go to the beach. Rachel and her fiancee are heavily involved in the theater community in Hilo, where she is usually found in the pit on the piano; Rachel also is expanding her talents by performing on stage.
Carmen Sales has been working in the optometric field in Hilo for eight years; she thoroughly enjoys the clinical aspect of the practice and all of our wonderful patients. Carmen earned an B.A. in English and Religious Studies from UHH and was raised on the south side of the Big Island in Ka’u. She fills her free time with family, pets, friends, and especially her pre-teen daughter, Bailey. Carmen loves to entertain, decorate, cook, draw, watch movies, and is an avid reader. She also tries, but fails miserably, to make time to write for her Eblog.
Passionate about working with children, Marina Ignacio joined the friendly and professional team at Eye Care Hawaii after working as a nanny for numerous families throughout Los Angeles. She now provides excellent care and customer service to all of our patients. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, going to the beach, and spending time with her friends, family, and pets. Marina was born and raised in Maui, Hawaii and attended Whittier College in Los Angeles, CA.
Rachel Ramo has over 17 years of customer service experience, including multiple supervisory roles and positions in retail and the automotive industry. She joined Eye Care Hawaii as a part time Office Assistant, calling our patients to schedule appointments and deliver appointment reminders. She now is a full time Office Assistant, preparing patient charts, getting referrals, and providing other critical support services in addition to her calling duties. In her personal life, Rachel loves spending quality time with her two children, daughter Ariana, 15, and son Ralenn, 5, as well as with her fiancé, Jason. She likes to travel to Oahu whenever possible, enjoys weekend getaways to Kona, and loves to shop online. Rachel was born and raised in Honolulu and graduated from Farrington High School in 1994; she has been living in Hilo since 2001.
