Jade loves spending time with her family and friends, as well as going to the beach, park, zoo, Kona and Waikoloa. (Especially since her almost-2 year-old keeps things very busy at home!)  She also loves pilates, yoga, and running in 5Ks.  Jade is active in the community with church events and organized walks and runs.

Hilo, HI, May 4, 2010 – Eye Care Hawai’i celebrated its first anniversary at its new facility at 34 W. Kawailani Street. A traditional Okinawan blessing for the new site occurred on May 1, 2010.

The new facility, across from Andrews Gym and Waiakeawaena Elementary School, features improvements and updated, state-of-the-art equipment from the previous Eye Care Hawai’i location. Eye Care Hawai’i Hilo’s leading eye care clinic now has more space for diagnostic equipment, a cutting-edge optical boutique with an interior design featuring native ohia trees, and native Hawaiian landscaping.

The facility’s new equipment includes: a Medmont Corneal Topographer, which measures corneal curvature for disease diagnosis and for Orthokeratology (non-surgical vision correction); an Octopus 300 Pro Perimeter, which measures field of vision for neurological eye and brain disorders (i.e., glaucoma, brain tumors, and other conditions); and an Acuity Pro computerized vision testing suite.

Eye Care Hawai’i worked with GW Construction to develop the environmentally conscious facility, which utilizes solar water heating as well as energy efficient lighting, appliances, windows, glass, and air conditioning system. In the near future, Eye Care Hawai’i will equip the building with solar photovoltaic panels, which will supply all of the power
for the office’s energy needs.

GW Construction was critical in obtaining the proper building permits from the city and for accommodating design changes throughout the project. Due to GW’s hard work  the building was constructed, from grading the property to final inspection, in just nine months.

While the new  facility has been open and in business for one year, Eye Care Hawai’i and GW Construction have recently  completed all the finishing touches on the facility.

At 5:00 p.m. on May 1, 2010, Reverend Earl Ikeda performed a traditional Okinawan blessing, which was chosen to honor the Okinawan heritage of Dr. Grant Miyashiro, the founder of Eye Care Hawai’i.

“Our new facility will help Eye Care Hawai’i continue its tradition of exceptional care and outstanding vision technology for patients in Hilo and beyond,” said Dr. Miyashiro. “We are very excited to use our new diagnostic space to deliver the best eye care on the island and, of course, to continue to extend our legacy of old-fashioned compassionate service. This move is a boon to everyone involved, particularly our patients,” he added.
