Grant T. Miyashiro
Dr. Grant T. Miyashiro was raised in Pearl City, Oahu. He attended Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, receiving his Bachelors of Science degree in 1991. He earned his O.D. degree (with distinction) from the Pacific University College of Optometry four years later, and went on to complete externships at Tripler Army Medical Center, Hickam Air Force Base 15th Medical Group, and the Pacific University Family Vision Centers (Downtown Portland, South East Portland). During this time, he was the recipient of the United States Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship and upon graduation in 1995, he served as an Optometrist at the United States Naval Hospital in Yokosuka Japan, and as adjunct faculty for the Kikuchi College of Optometry. Dr. Miyashiro also mentored Japanese medical students rotating through the eye clinic.Dr. Miyashiro returned to Hawai’i in 1998 to join the Kauai Medical Clinic. In June of 2000 he moved to Hilo to establish his independent office, and has been here ever since. Dr. Miyashiro is certified by the National and State Boards in Optometry and is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Hawaii Optometric Association. In addition, he serves as a vision screening consultant for the Rotary Club of South Hilo and is a regular speaker for Ke Anuenue, a local organization promoting community and public health. In his free time, Dr. Miyashiro enjoys cultivating a native Hawaiian forest at his Waiakea Uka home. Other interests include Brazilian jiujitsu, yoga, and subsistence farming.
